Why OffBook Studio exists

Self-tapes and cold reads have become a normal part of auditioning, and they almost always assume you have someone available to read the other part: a roommate, a scene partner, a class, someone on a video call. That person isn't always available, especially when the audition lands with little notice. OffBook Studio was built to solve that specific, recurring problem for actors working independently, without pretending a reader app replaces a good scene partner when one is available.

What it does

Import your sides as a PDF or paste them in as text, then choose which character is yours. OffBook Studio rehearses with you using Listen & Respond, a responsive reader that listens to the words you're actually performing and answers when it matches your cue in the script, not on a fixed timer. You can use one of the app's ready-made reader voices, or record your own performance of the other character's lines and have the voice transformed, keeping your own timing and choices intact. A built-in teleprompter keeps your lines visible while you record, and you can capture and review your self-tape without leaving the app.

An actor-first approach

OffBook Studio is built around the actual mechanics of rehearsal: listening, cue timing, and repetition, not novelty for its own sake. That means being upfront about what the app is and isn't. It doesn't provide a live human reader, and for scenes where a real person's specific choices and reactions matter most, a live reader can still be the better option when you have one available. OffBook Studio exists for the moments you don't.
