Classic Mode gives you a Reader performance you control. Interactive LIVE gives you a Reader performance that responds.
Interactive LIVE Mode is OffBook Studio's performance-responsive Reader for rehearsal. Unlike Classic Mode, which uses a prepared Reader performance, Interactive LIVE listens to how the actor plays the scene and generates a fresh performance of the next assigned Reader line in response. The dialogue stays locked to the script. What changes is the performance.
What is Interactive LIVE Mode?
Acting is not the repetition of a predetermined line reading. It's listening, receiving, and responding, and that's exactly what most solo rehearsal can't offer you. Interactive LIVE Mode is built to close that gap. It's a Reader mode inside OffBook Studio that stays locked to your imported script while changing how each Reader line is performed, based on how you just played the scene. It should never be mistaken for a generic chatbot: it doesn't converse, it doesn't invent dialogue, and it doesn't decide what happens next in the story. It decides how the next scripted line lands.
How does Interactive LIVE work?
Every OffBook Studio reader is built on the same three-part idea, and Interactive LIVE extends it:
- WORD CUE = WHEN. OffBook's content-aware cue system listens to your spoken performance and waits until it determines you've delivered the intended scripted cue.
- SCRIPT = WHAT. The Reader's words stay locked to the exact line assigned to that role in your imported script.
- LIVE = HOW. In Classic Mode, HOW the Reader performs a line is set in advance, whether you pick a ready-made voice or record and transform your own delivery. Interactive LIVE generates that turn's HOW fresh instead, so the delivery can respond to how you just played the preceding moment.
A cue's timing alone has never told the whole story of a scene. Interactive LIVE listens for the cue and for the performance around it, then answers with a Reader line whose rhythm, energy, and tone reflect what it just heard. Silence on its own is never treated as permission to advance; the cue system is still listening for your content, not just for a pause.
What changes when I perform a line differently?
The words don't change. The performance can. If you play a beat quieter, faster, angrier, or more restrained, Interactive LIVE can vary the Reader's rhythm, energy, urgency, intimacy, tension, inflection, and emotional tone on its next line accordingly, while speaking the exact same scripted text every time. Say the line differently, and you can get a different performance back.
Does Interactive LIVE change the script?
No. Interactive LIVE does not improvise dialogue, does not rewrite a line, and does not add words that aren't in your imported script. It never uses silence alone as authority to advance the scene. The text stays exactly what you assigned it. Only the performance of that text is generated fresh, turn by turn.
Interactive LIVE vs Classic Reader
Classic Mode remains available inside OffBook Studio, and it isn't being replaced. It can already be a fully expressive Reader: choose a ready-made voice, or record the Reader lines yourself exactly how you want them played, yelled, whispered, rushed, hesitant, then transform that recording's voice while keeping your timing intact. What makes it Classic isn't a lack of expression. It's that the Reader performance is set in advance: once you've picked or recorded that performance, it stays the same on every run until you deliberately change or rerecord it. Interactive LIVE works differently. In Classic Mode, the Reader performance is prepared in advance and remains consistent until the actor changes it. In Interactive LIVE Mode, the Reader's next scripted line is performed fresh each time in response to how the actor just played the scene. The words stay locked to the script. The performance does not.

Is Interactive LIVE faster than Classic?
No, and we want to be upfront about that instead of hiding it. Classic Mode uses a prepared Reader performance, so it can respond quickly every time. Interactive LIVE has to listen to your performance, understand how you played it, and generate a fresh Reader performance for that exact turn, so it needs more response time than Classic Mode. It is not zero latency, and it is not as fast as a human being. Classic gives you speed and consistency. Interactive LIVE gives you spontaneity and a responsive performance. Which one is "better" depends on what a given rehearsal session actually needs.
Who is Interactive LIVE for?
Interactive LIVE is for actors who want more room for spontaneity once they're already working a scene, not necessarily for the first cold pass. It's most useful in extended solo scene work, where a real scene partner's reactions would naturally shift depending on how a moment landed, and you want your rehearsal to reflect that instead of hitting an identical beat every single time. For a first read of new sides, or for locking in consistent timing before a take, Classic Mode is usually the better fit.
Does it replace a human reader?
No. Interactive LIVE is not a chatbot, and it doesn't replace a human scene partner or a live reader's judgment. It's a rehearsal tool for the moments an actor is working alone, built to make that solo practice feel less like reciting at a wall. A skilled human reader who can genuinely react in the moment remains the better option whenever one is actually available.
What does OffBook Studio Live cost?
OffBook Studio Live is priced at $49.99/month. It's a premium upgrade tier that adds Interactive LIVE Mode to your OffBook Studio subscription. Standard OffBook Studio Pro remains available on its own, unchanged, at $10.99/month with a 1-week free trial, or $79.99/year, for actors who want Classic Mode and don't need Interactive LIVE.
What is included with OffBook Studio Live?
OffBook Studio Live includes the existing OffBook Studio Pro feature set: smart PDF import and editing, Classic Listen & Respond cueing, ready-made Reader voices, the option to record and transform your own Reader performance, the built-in teleprompter, headphone-first recording, Gallery, and Reader Volume Mix. Interactive LIVE Mode is added on top of all of that, not in place of it.
