What is the fastest way to import a PDF into OffBook Studio?

Fastest way: open the audition PDF where you already received it on your iPhone, tap Share, then choose OffBook Studio. You do not need to open OffBook Studio first.

After OffBook Studio opens, confirm the sides in Import and tap Continue → Assign.

You can also open OffBook Studio, go to Import → Upload PDF, enter a title and choose your PDF.

How does Quick Lines work?

Quick Lines is the fastest way to build a short scene manually.

Go to Import → Quick Lines, enter your script title, then add dialogue using Add as YOU and Add as PARTNER. When the scene is ready, tap Continue → Assign.

Quick Lines is useful for short auditions, practice scenes, pickups, cue lines, or any time entering a few lines is faster than preparing a PDF.

What if the PDF extraction is not perfect?

You do not need to start over.

Use Review & Edit to clean the imported scene before rehearsing. You can correct dialogue, change speakers, add missing lines above or below, delete unwanted dialogue, remove extraction or OCR residue, and save the cleaned scene before continuing.

If the extraction is not perfect, fix the scene instead of re-importing everything.

How do I edit a scene after I already imported it?

Go to Import and find the script under Saved Scripts. Press and hold the script where you see Hold to Edit.

If the script contains more than one scene, choose the scene you want to edit.

OffBook Studio will open the scene in Review & Edit, where you can fix dialogue, change speakers, add missing lines, delete unwanted lines and clean up extraction residue.

When you are finished, save the scene. Your edits will be there the next time you open it.

Why does Record tell me the scene needs to be prepared or rendered?

OffBook Studio prepares the Reader performance for a scene in Rehearse before Record uses it.

Before recording a self-tape:

1. Open the scene in Rehearse.
2. Prepare or play the Reader so the scene is ready.
3. Make any Reader-performance changes you want.
4. Then move to Record.

If Record says the scene needs to be prepared, return to Rehearse first and prepare the Reader again.

This workflow also lets you hear the scene before the camera is rolling.

Which microphone does OffBook Studio use?

OffBook Studio uses the iPhone's built-in microphone for the actor's voice.

When AirPods or compatible headphones are being used for Reader playback, the Reader can be heard privately through the headphones while the iPhone remains the microphone source.

That means the iPhone still needs to be close enough to hear you clearly.

Do not leave the phone far across the room and assume the AirPods microphone is doing the listening.

Keep the iPhone reasonably close, keep its microphones unobstructed, and frame your self-tape from a practical recording distance.

Why does a quiet room matter?

Listen & Respond needs to hear your spoken cue clearly enough to match it to the script.

Strong background conversation, televisions, music, loud air conditioners, traffic and other room noise can make recognition harder.

You do not need a soundproof studio. You want the iPhone close enough to hear you clearly and a room quiet enough that your voice is the dominant sound.

Does the Reader advance when I stop talking?

Not simply because you became silent.

Listen & Respond is content-aware. It listens for enough of the expected scripted cue to determine when the Reader should respond.

A pause, breath, hesitation or acting beat by itself is not meant to advance the Reader.

This lets the actor control the pace of the scene instead of performing against a fixed silence timer.

What should I check if the Reader is not advancing?

Check these first:

• Make sure OffBook Studio has microphone permission.
• Keep the iPhone reasonably close.
• Reduce strong background noise.
• Confirm the app is in its listening state during your line.
• Speak enough of the actual scripted cue for Listen & Respond to recognize it.
• If you recently connected or disconnected AirPods or Bluetooth headphones, give the audio route a moment to settle.
• If the scene still feels stuck, restart the scene and try again.

OffBook Studio is designed to recognize the words of the cue rather than advancing only because the room became quiet. Recognition can vary with speech, distance and recording conditions.

Do I have to record the Reader lines myself?

No.

You can choose a ready-made Reader voice and OffBook Studio will perform the Reader lines for you. No Reader-line recording is required.

If you want more control, you can also record a Reader line yourself and perform it with the timing, rhythm, pauses, inflection and acting choices you want.

Can I re-record just one Reader line?

Yes.

In Rehearse, you can record or re-record an individual Reader line instead of rebuilding the entire scene.

Your custom Reader line can then carry into Rehearse and Record.

What does Mask do?

Mask lets you transform the sound of a Reader line that you recorded yourself while preserving the performance choices you gave it.

You control the timing, rhythm, pauses and delivery. Mask changes the voice while keeping that performance.

A masked Reader line is optional. You can always use a ready-made Reader voice instead.

How does the teleprompter work?

In Record, tap TEXT to open the actor teleprompter.

The teleprompter focuses on your assigned-role dialogue and gives you current or upcoming line guidance while you work.

Use A− and A+ to adjust text size.

It is designed as an acting safety net, not as a fixed newsreader-style scrolling script.

For longer sections, the text remains readable and can be navigated as needed.

My Reader is too loud or too quiet. Do I need to record the audition again?

Not necessarily.

OffBook Studio keeps the Reader separate from the actor's original take.

In Gallery, Reader Volume Mix lets you rebuild the finished tape with the Reader:

Your original actor take remains preserved.

You can then play the adjusted result and save or export the finished tape.
